Here a very simple way to make images of snow flakes.
Click on images to see a larger version of them.
Simply put your dark head band outside to cool it off, and then take photos.

Here are some snow crystals and snow flakes I photographed in December 2016.
The size of the fibers on the head band gives a scale.
Some snow flakes are 'rimed', that is, are brilliant white because super cooled water droplets have frozen on them.
