We had the great fortune of visiting New York City at the end of May, 2004. Our nephew, Sean Gandert, and his Albuquerque NM Youth Symphony were playing at Carnegie Hall (see the warm up) , so Leanna, Patty and I, and Sean's family (June, Joe, Mathew, Daniel, Aunt Pat, Aunt Susie, and Grandma Gandert) went to NYC. Daniel's friend Curt is also attending Columbia University (Physics), so he was to stay on a bit longer. I had a chance to talk on the phone with friend Matt Giarratano, a childhood friend that now works at Penguin Publishing (their recent translation of Anna Karenina made the Opra Winfrey reading list, ensuring success).

NYC is just great! People of all races, Central Park jogging, amusement park, scenery, size, horse and buggy rides, trees galore, people all over with a lot of energy, clean air, lakes. I finally visited the American Museum of Natural History after being a member for many years. Probably one of the most impressive things in NYC is the number of great restaurants. I just went door to door, making a taste test at each one. With all the walking and jogging, I thoroughly tired my poor feet out! It was a quick trip of only 5 or 6 days, too quick. We stayed at the Salisbury Hotel, a nice old place with large rooms, no frills, and good prices.
